You can delete an uploaded image by hovering the image thumbnail in the media library, clicking on the kebab menu button, then choosing Delete from the list of action items.
If the image is embedded into any post or if it has representation in the Wordpress media library, the delivery URL will automatically change from Cloudinary to the local Wordpress server.
As long as you haven't deleted the asset permanently from your Wordpress media library, you can always choose to manually re-sync the asset from your library to your Cloudinary account.
What about if I'm deleting the image from WP Media Library (that is uploaded on Cloudinary too), will be the image also deleted from Cloudinary?
Deleting images from your WP media library won't delete the images on your Cloudinary account.
If I upload a image on cloudinary, does it gets deleted from wordpress automatically?
We keep the copies of the images on the WP server as well, so in case you would like to migrate away from Cloudinary, the experience for you users would be kept.
So to answer your question, the image won't be deleted from your local server if you upload it to Cloudianry.
I have migrated one image away from cloudinary via WP Media (Migrate away from cloudinary option), but still, the image name is not reverted. Image original name was - acrdn-image.png (before uploaded to cloudinary) and the current name is acrdn-image_dxuzue.png (after uploaded to Cloudinary).
So my question is, How to revert the name of the image? If I deactivate the plugin or migrate the image away from Cloudinary.
In order to stop the filenames being uploaded to Cloudinary with the suffix added to their name, you need to first create a default upload preset, setting "Use filename or externally defined public ID" to true and then "Unique Filename" to False.
By default, our system generates those suffixes to make sure public_ids are unique, so if you upload two files with the same name, one will not overwrite the other.
If interested, you can open a support ticket at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will assist you with creating the relevant default upload preset.
With regard to the images already uploaded, I'm afraid there is no easy way for changing back their names. If the uploads were made via v1 of the plugin, removing the suffixes after migrating away will require using some external tools for running a search and replace on your filenames and database, removing everything in the file name that is between the last occurrence of an underscore (including the underscore) and the file extension.
I suggest that if you do decide to take this approach you first make sure that you have a full backup of your site and database and run your tests on a sandbox environment.
With that being said, our new v2 of the plugin, which is currently in late beta phase, uses a completely different mechanism that doesn't keep the suffixes in the image files names when reverting back to WordPress URLs. However, this will work only for resources that were uploaded after the new plugin was installed.
If you would like to try out our new beta plugin, please open a support ticket and we will further instruct you on how to install it.
Thank you for the previous reply.
I also wanted to know, how can we upload images as well as their thumbnails, created by WP itself, into cloudinary via WP media library. I have tried uploading the thumbnail images using their media link directly to Cloudinary website, but they are not getting linked automatically and appearing in the website because it is not uploaded via WP media, I believe.
If you visit our website Zyeta, under Articles & Blogs section you can see the blogs images, which are actually thumbnail images. We want those images to come via cloudinary with the exact thumbnail size - 550x350.
As we know in the WP media library, we can not see the thumbnails. So how to upload those thumbnail images and let them come on the website without doing the upload and attach process manually? Can you please explain?
Awaiting your earliest response.
I've noticed that you've opened a direct support ticket as well.
I would like to kindly ask you to take a look at my reply on the ticket's thread and let's continue the conversation over there.
