Cloudinary's WordPress plugin indeed supports multi-sites.
You can:
- Use a different Cloudinary account for each site.
- Share the same Cloudinary account for all the sites and set a different folder in your Cloudinary storage path for each website.
For both options, you should (for each WordPress site) go to the Connect tab under the Cloudinary in the left menu of your WordPress admin interface. Connect your Cloudinary product environment by adding your connection string, which is your Cloudinary environment variable. You can get your environment variable by navigating to the API Keys tab of your Cloudinary console settings and copying the format for the API environment variable. Replace <your_api_key> and <your_api_secret> placeholders with the actual values you see on the page for your API Key and your API Secret.
In case you chose option 2, you will also need to go to the Sync Media tab under the Cloudinary and add a folder to the Cloudinary storage path.

Hi,
Sorry for the delayed response on the ticket.
We're currently checking your issue with the team to see if we can track the problem. I'll let you know (via the ticket) once we have any insights.
Hello, I have a few questions about this article.
1) When you say version 1 & 2.. are you referring to the version of Cloudinary plugin for WordPress?
2) re: Version 2 setup. Why do we need to use a different folder for each website? Can you elaborate on this and does this mean images are stored twice? once for each folder/site in Cloudinary?
Hey @fuller,
Yes, when we say version 1 & 2, we indeed refer to the version of Cloudinary plugin.
If you are still using our older plugin version, v1.x, the information provided in the first section is relevant for you. Otherwise, you should follow the information provided under the "version 2" section.
To answer your second question, assuming that you have two different sites, with different images, we wouldn't want image X from site A that might have the same name as image Y from site B to overwrite it, resulting in both sites showing the same image X.
In addition, having two separate folders within your Cloudinary account makes it easy for you to distinguish between images of site A and images of site B when navigating or performing any operations on your assets via the Cloudinary UI Console.
When you ask "does this mean images are stored twice?", do you mean that all of the media on your sites is identical, meaning the same images are stored on both sites and include the same names and paths? Otherwise, I'm not sure that I understand what images you expect to be stored twice by this behavior. Would you be able to kindly elaborate on that? :)
Thanks,
Raz
