Dynamic folder mode allows users to move and rename media assets and folders without changing unique asset identifiers or public URLs, ensuring seamless content organization and management without disrupting production workflows.
You can read more about dynamic folders in the following documentation: Folder modes
To overwrite an asset, the Overwrite should be enabled. Here are several ways to do it:
- Specify an exact public ID via the Advanced options in the Upload widget that matches the public ID of the asset you want to overwrite.
- Upload to an asset folder where an existing asset has a display name that matches the name of the file being uploaded.
- Upload a new asset with the same filename as an existing asset's public ID. To allow this way of overwriting assets, make sure to update the upload preset as follows:
- Set Use the filename of the uploaded file as the Public ID to on.
- Set Append a unique suffix to off.
In addition, make sure to set the upload preset as default in the Settings-> Upload page.
Note: In dynamic folder mode, the public ID field shows the entire public ID value (full path). This value isn't directly related to the Media Library folder where it's currently located. This entire value can be directly modified.
Here is a chart of the public_id value:
