The 'media_lib_thumb' derived assets are thumbnails that are automatically created when uploading or browsing through images via the Media Library web interface. They are not created for images uploaded through our API (until browsed through the media library).

I don't agree. I upload thousands files via API and the thumbnails are generated either and charge my transformation balance. Is there a way to disable it?
Hi Ben,
The API uploads shouldn't generate thumbnails unless you log into your account and view them in the ML.
Can you please open a support ticket here: https://support.cloudinary.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and share the public_id or URL of the resource uploaded and I will be able to check the logs.
Thanks,
Aditi
