Size of images fetched

Hi

The images I uploaded are of 100 KB. with 1080 px resolution.
But when I am downloading different resolution images, like w_1080, w_720 etc. the size increases dramatically to 250 KB or so.
Why is it so, how can the size increase.?
Even after reducing the quality the size is still more than the original image.
