    Hello Nick,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Unfortunately, HEIC format is currently not supported by any browser so we are unable to allow previewing it and have to upload it straight away instead.

Also, currently, we do not convert it into a compatible format like JPG before uploading so you can request this to be added via https://cloudinary.com/roadmap

Please let me know if you have any other questions or queries.

    Kind Regards,
    Thomas

Are there any updates on this? Considering that HEIC has become one of the world's more prominent image file types, this must be a priority for a company specializing in image management. My user base is substantially iPhone users, so not allowing them to upload photos without manually converting them is a HUGE issue for me, as it reduces UGC.

    Hi John,

We do support HEIC file uploads since 2017, and we also support transforming this type of file, but as Thomas said, it is currently not supported by any browser so we are unable to allow previewing it.

What I would suggest for your use case is using incoming transformations - if want to modify the original assets before storing them (such as changing their format), you can apply incoming transformation as part of the upload request with the upload widget

Use the upload preset UI (go to settings -> upload -> scroll down) or create an upload preset programmatically to get the incoming transformation going. In the upload preset you can specify which incoming transformations you want to apply.

Incoming transformations are applied before storing the asset in Cloudinary. This is especially useful to normalize user-generated content, for example, to limit the resolution size or clip a long video to a maximum duration.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Warmest regards,

    Tamara
