    Hi Daniel,

The default fallback gravity for face detection is indeed north because the face is in the top part of post standard photos.

However, we've added new gravity options that allows fallback to center gravity as requested. It will be available in our next system update in the next few days, we will keep you posted.

    Thanks,

    Orly

    Hi Orly,

as always, thanks for your immediate action and perfect support!

However, I'd like to challenge this statement: "The default fallback gravity for face detection is indeed north because the face is in the top part of post standard photos." - While it's surely correct that faces are more likely to be in the top half of the photo, when talking about the fallback, then_ _we are talking about images where there are no faces (of course, assuming that your face-detection works reliably ;-) ). And for those images (that is, images with no faces), I think that the center gravity is a more natural way of cropping.

Anyways, it's surely the best approach to make this configurable and make your customers choose what best fits their use case. Just wanted to express my 2 cents on this.

    Cheers, and thanks again, Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

I wanted to update you that the system was updated with support for** 'center' fallback gravity for face detection based cropping** in addition to the default 'north' based gravity.

The new gravity options are 'face:center' and 'faces:center'. Both are identifier to face/faces gravity but the fallback gravity in case that no faces are detected is center instead of north, as you can see in the following samples:

    Default fallback to north:

    Default fallback to north

    Fallback to center:
